February 20th is the deadline to file a real estate tax appeal in Connecticut.  Many shoreline area towns have completed 5 year property revaluations as of October 1, 2018, including Old Saybrook, Madison, Essex, Chester, and Lyme.  Residential and commercial property owners have the right to file an appeal to the Board of Assessment Appeals seeking to lower an excessive tax valuation of their property.  Higher tax valuations can lead to higher taxes once the Town's mill rate is established.  If you do not appeal now, you lose your right to appeal until next February.   If you are a property who believes that your tax assessment is excessive or does not equal the fair market value, please contact our office for a complimentary benefit analysis of a tax appeal.
